Who Should Attend?
Eating disorders may manifest themselves in many different ways. Some people restrict their food intake, some binge on large amounts of food and then purge, some just feel "out of control" in their eating. We believe that there are similar emotional issues that underly these disorders and thus the group is open to anyone who is struggling with a preoccupation with eating and/or weight.
This group is only for people who themselves have eating disorders or food and weight preoccupations, and who are 17 years of age or older. Accompanying family members or friends are welcome to wait in the cafeteria outside of the group meeting.
We receive many requests from mental health providers to observe the group. The facilitators would be happy to talk with you about how the group is managed, but we do not allow direct observation of the group.
The Friends and Family Support Group meets at the University Presbyterian Church: 4540 - 15th Ave NE, on Mondays at 7pm

I am not currently being treated for my eating disorder but am seeking treatment. Is this support group only for those who are recovering and have been in treatment for sometime?

"I am not currently being treated for my eating disorder but am seeking treatment. Is this support group only for those who are recovering and have been in treatment for sometime? " Hi there, The group is open to anyone who is interested in recovering from an eating disorder. We have a range of participants--from those just realizing that they don't want an eating disorder to be the center of their lives but have no idea how to change this--to those who are well on the way to recovery. Several of the group members receive other types of support from therapists or nutritionists but there is no requirement that members be in any specific type of treatment. Why not come one time and see? It is a friendly and welcoming group and all have great compassion for starting the process of healing and recovering from an eating disorder.
